Although this public house is only a mile or two from Market Harborough, when you visit you could be excused for thinking you were miles from anywhere. The charming picturesque village of Great Bowden is a peaceful and unhurried place with a popular hostelry, The Shoulder of Mutton which is an up and coming establishment that is a firm favourite with locals and visitors to the area.
Under the careful guidance of Jamie Maxwell and her helpful staff, this 16th century building has undergone significant refurbishment (with more to come in the future). Standing proud on the village green, with its elegant stonewashed exterior, it creates the sort of view that is seen on a picture postcard. The interior of the pub is equally attractive with public and lounge bars, a games area, conservatory restaurant and a large well maintained beer garden to the rear. This makes a restful place to drink and eat in the warm weather.
The Shoulder of Mutton is reputed to be haunted by at least three ghosts.
