Cemetery
Yesterday (28.2.08) I visited the cemetery and was initially horrified to see that my parents grave had been dug over with bare soil remaining. I then met Mr Herbert who was working there who explained to me what has been and is due to happen. Thank goodness there is some light at the end of the tunnel. My parents gravestone has tilted because of the poor drainage and will in due course need re alignment. It obviously doesn't make sense to have any work undertaken until the drainage situation is resolved/improved.I wonder who will be responsible for the cost of this realignment.
May I also request that when the grass is cut the contractor takes more care to avoid chipping the corners/edges off the stones and flattening the pot holders.

Old Time Music Hall
Myself and neighbours went along to the 'Old Time Music Hall' last Friday and we thought it was a great show.
Good luck with the Village Festival events for the rest of the year.

Great Bowden Borrow Pit?
Can anyone tell me whether there is public access to Great Bowden Borrow Pit SSSI? I have recently heard about this site, and its Natural History credentials, and would be intersted in visiting it if there is public access, but information is very sketchy on the internet and I have so far been unable to find out any other information about the reserve. Perhaps some people from the area may be able to shed some light on this.

Thank you
Thank you for taking the time to reply to our request to find our sister Anne Leach Bennett.
We are happy to announce that we have this past weekend made contact with her and all is going well at this stage.

Searching
I may have recently emailed you about a search we are doing to help us uncover the whereabouts of our adopted sister.
She was adopted 59 years ago and we feel that we are very close to a closure, one way or the other.
Is there a chance you could help us.
Our search is centred at this point in Market Harbourough where the parents of the adopted child lived most probably up until about 10 years ago when the last of the couple passed away.
We are searching for any living relatives of Stanley and Olive Leach who resided for many years in Heygate Street, Market Harborough.
We are in particularly searching for one of their children whose name is (maiden name) Anne Leach.
She was born 14th August 1948.
She may have "married one of the Devlin boys from down Bowden Farm Lodge, where the bypass is now" or possibly Trevor Bennett in or around 1969.
Stanley was apparently a town "character" and would often be seen with his Jack Russell dogs who he used to take "ratting".
Stanley, we believe resided in Gables Residential Home until he passed away.
Please help us in our search, we live in Australia and the search is hard and takes many twists and turns.
We have been searching a long time and really believe we are nearing the end of our search.
Any relatives, any friends who knew Stanley may be able to give us the names of their children, or may in fact know Anne.
Feel free to contact us or pass on our information.
With deepest thanks

Neighbourhood Watch Meeting
It was good to see so many people turn out for the meeting last night and to get the chance to find out a little more about the village.

Great Bowden Compass Group
The Compass Group was a group formed by volunteers last year as a result of the Heritage's Group Initiative.
It originally set out thinking it would re-tackle the 'Village Appraisal' undertaken some 10 years ago.
After discussions it was felt that a questionnaire/booklet had already been done and we needed to move forward.
The Group then decided a Village Website would be beneficial to all who would like to know more about Great Bowden, what goes on here and who to contact. It would also be a great way for people to keep up to date with an online archive of the Village Newsletters.
The Groups set about collating information and leads and updating information, which has now evolved into a full website and links to contacts including the newly maintained Parish Council web space.
Along side this task other projects were being undertaken for the village as a whole. Alf Herbert volunteered to tackle the Cemetery issues, flooding, maintenance and water supply with the relevant contacts, David French has taken on the role of forming the Neighbourhood Watch within the village and Liz Mears is looking at working B parties to keep Great Bowden litter free.
Members of the Compass Group who volunteered to take on this task were:-
Alf Herbert, Deb Hale, John Crow, John Hunt, David French, Natalie Holmes, Barbara Cudmore, Liz Mears and Tricia Hart.
Thank you! and thank you very much to all who contributed up to date information, links, minutes and agendas, reports, the village design statement and newsletters.
If anyone wishes to update any information we have listed, add to it or promote an event or report on an event with pictures please do let us know with the Contact Us form or email direct to greatbowden@aol.com
